Carved Mask - Huxwhukw by Trevor Hunt C2011
Huxwhukw is one of three Kwakwaka’wakw giant cannibal birds that are the attendants of Baxwbakwalanuxwsiwe” the cannibal at the North End of the World, and a part of the Hamatsa (cannibal Dance) ceremony. The other two are Crooked Beak and Cannibal Raven.
The Mask has been carved from Red cedar and finished off with a cedar bark shirt and Tufts, the lower jaw articulates, it also been fully carved.
The measurements of the mask alone are 51 inches long by 12 inches high by 12 inches wide. The measurements of the mask with the cedar bark skirt and tufts are 47 inches long by 34 inches high by 12 inches wide.
