Mask - Crooked Beak by Aubrey Johnson c2008
Crooked- beak, a monstrous human eating bird who inspires great fear, is one of the Hamatsa (cannibal dance) ceremony’s three giant cannibal birds.
This mask was originally carved for the West Family of Alert Bay for there Pot latch that now has been postponed to a latter date.
The Mask measures 31 inches long by 11 inches in heigth 10 inches wide with the cedar bark the measurements are 34 inches long by 37 inches high and 10 inches wide. This mask is fully carved from Red Cedar and dress with pounded Cedar Bark.
